October 2008

I always struggle with news reports because there is so much scary and challenging in the world. It’s important to stay informed, of course, but sometimes I just don’t feel up to the task. In January our Adult RE program will be sponsoring a discussion series about despair (and maybe what to do about it); clear your Wednesdays now! But until then, we have this article about the inventor of the Segway, who has decided to turn his attention to philanthopy. Note the photograph of Guinean students who study at night under streetlights in the airport parking lot, because that’s where the light is.

Question of the day: what are the uses and the accompanying shapes of worship? Look here for a sense of what one church does.

Perhaps we need not just slightly different but radically different worship forms within our UU lexicon.

Just a quick reminder that if you haven’t already read and commented on the UUA Commission on Appraisal’s proposed revision of our Purposes and Principles (the document that starts with, “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association covenant to affirm and promote…the inherent worth and dignity of every person, justice equity and compassion in human relations…”) then you might want to do so. The deadline is approaching fast! Go here to see the changes and make your voice heard.
